What is Christianity all about?

Unbelievable? God’s Love

This is good news! We believe that despite who you are or what’s going on, God loves you – unconditionally.

The Bible says some fascinating things about God’s love:

  • Jesus’ sacrifice on the Cross was the ultimate expression of God’s love for you;
  • “Greater love hath no man than this, that he lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:13)
  • “Perfect love drives out fear” (1 John 4:18). God’s love for you is perfect and when you accept His love, you will find you are able to face up to, and move on from, any regrettable things that you may have done in the past.
  • “We love Him because He first loved us” (1 John 4:19): We rarely encounter unconditional love in this world but once we understand that we are truly loved by God we are able to place our trust in Him and love Him freely and without fear.

Relevant? Christianity and Modern Life

You will find that the Christian worldview goes against the grain of what you were taught by society, but it gives an honest, and therefore ultimately liberating perspective.  Jesus came partly to free people from the rule-bound interpretation of the Old Testament that was being practised at the time, but he also said, “I came that they might have and enjoy life, and have it in abundance” (John 10:10).  Following Jesus may not always be easy, but it is life changing and brings happiness, love and life in abundance.

Many people feel that there is something wrong with the world and with the way that it teaches us that happiness can be found in consumerism, wealth or what we look like.  Like many, you may have experienced that these ideas often lead to unhappiness or confusion, but it can still be difficult to stop them impacting upon our lives.  You may have been taught that religion will only make things more complicated.  However, Christianity isn’t about adding more rules to your life, it is about substituting them for something new.  Jesus promises that when you take on God’s values wholeheartedly, you will become free of the twisted rules of the world we live in: He uses the image of an ox pulling a heavy load wearing an uncomfortable harness, which is replaced by a load that is light and comfortable; “Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest … for My yoke is easy and My burden is light” (Matthew 11: 28-30). We are again reassured in 1 John 5:3-4, “His commandments are not burdensome.  For whatever is born of God overcomes the world.”

Through dying a death of Roman execution for all the evil and brokenness of the world, we believe Jesus came back to life, giving us the gift of a new start and a new life.  Through this, Jesus made it possible today to have a living and personal relationship with God based on His forgiveness and unconditional love.

Invitation to accept Christ

If you would like to begin your journey as a Christian, here is a simple prayer that will get you started:

“Dear Lord Jesus,

I come to You today and confess that I need You.  Please come into my life and forgive me of all my sins.  Jesus be my Lord and Saviour. Thank You for giving me a brand new start.  Today I open my life to You, I am now Your child,

Amen.”
